About
Us.
The Rock Shop was established in 1984 by a well respected and well
known local musician. It soon exploded into a very popular local
shop who was known for having top notch guitar gear and having a
knowledgable staff who could repair what they sold. ( what a novel
idea). We could perform repairs on Tube Amps, Complicated Tremelo
systems on guitars, fret work, neck shaping, anything to do with
guitars and amplifiers, we could do it then, and today we still
can. At that time we could even repair your home stereo. That owner
has since moved on to bigger and better things. But this shop has
Always been run by an Electronics Tech, not a business man, not
a retired janitorial custodian, not an old man, and not an insurance
salesman, But by guitar players and Electronic Techs.
Although we don't fix your home stereo's anymore, we do have the
Best service team in the area.
I was a Ground Radio Repair Tech in the Marine Corps for 4 years,
with the 1st LAV Battalion in Camp Pendleton. Which later became
part of Re-Con Bttln. We repaired radios and headsets and helmets,
did radio alignments, basically getting my feet wet in electronics.
Once I reached Corporal, I got bored with that and I went to ITT
Tech in St. Louis, Graduated #1 in my class with honors and received
an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Engineering.
I was then hired by St. Louis Music (SLM) Electronics Division as
a factory service tech for Crate, Ampeg and Audio Centron. I learned
all of my amplifier knowledge from these fine folks by working on
amps for 45 hours a week for about 4 years. It was a great advantage
to have the guys who engineered these amps on the floor above me,
and anytime I had a question, they always had an answer ( thanks
guys if you are reading this). I had the pleasure of working with
and on equipment for bands such as Alice in Chains, Black Crowes,
Rage against the Machine, Flotsom and Jetsom, Poison etc... pretty
much anyone who came through Mississippi Nights or Riverport who
played Ampeg.
While that was all too cool, having benefits like that doesn't
pay the bills, so... I moved back to Springfield and took over The
Rock Shop from my friend. That was in February of 1994. It has been
a long road to get where we are today, but yet it seems like it
was just yesterday. Time flies when you are having fun. I love this
job and look forward to coming to work everyday.
I have had the chance to meet a lot of great people in Central
Illinois. We have the best customers in the world.
Thanks for reading my own "pat on the back" speach.
All of us here at The Rock Shop, Mark, Troy, Miles and Myself,
appreciate your business and let us know from time to time how
we can improve our business to serve you better. Thanks again,
